I’m all about reusable products that I don’t have to throw away, but I’m also all about convenience. For instance, most of the time I used cloth diapers with my daughter, but also disposable diapers. Cloth to save money and help the earth and then disposable, because sometimes throwing away a diaper is just more convenient and when it comes to the early postpartum stages of birth, convenient is goals.
Below is a short list of items to stock up on, that most hospitals send home with you at discharge.
Gigantic pads – Big enough to make you ask “does it look like I have a bulge down there?”. Bleeding after birth is normal and wearing extra-large absorbent pads is going to help. Don’t be offended or taken back when the nurse hands you a package of thick postpartum pads. Smile, say thank you and stuff as many as they allow into your hospital bag.
Mesh underwear – The postpartum underwear they give you in the hospital are far from dainty or pretty, but dainty silk panties aren't going to do the trick after giving birth. Postpartum is a time for rest and healing. Allowing you time to connect with your baby. Having a pair of disposable underwear, that keeps your large gigantic pad in place, that you don’t have to worry about ruining with postpartum issues is easy and convenient... goals.
Chux pads – Chuxs pads are disposable under pads (chuck, as in chuck them in the trash) that go on your hospital bed to protect the bed from any bodily fluid or messes that might occur during and after birth. Often hospitals send a package of chuxs pads home with you. I used them the first few nights at home to protect my bed, but I wanted to find a way to reuse them. I decided to stash some in the diaper bag and used them for changing my daughter diapers on. Being able to throw them away with her diaper was very convenient and like I said before... goals.
Peri bottles- This is one product no one, not one person told me about. It's a squirt bottle, that allows you to wash off your private parts after using the restroom. Making things less messy, less painful and all around more convenient and sanitary. Honestly, it gave me a new perspective on why people use a bidet. My next house will most defiantly have a bidet.
Try to embrace this postpartum stage of your pregnancy and all the gigantic underwear that comes along with it. Who knows... maybe you can snap an honest picture of your postpartum self wearing your mesh underwear and go viral!
